I’m currently starting my annual Chester open mic tour of duty.
I like to keep an ear in, as every year, I discover new talent, as well as catch up with old friends.
I was fortunate enough to catch The Chi Open Mic down Garden Lane this week.
The weekly event is hosted by The Terry Burgin Blues Band on a Monday evening and is well worth checking out especially if you like your music on the more bluesy side of things.
I was chuffed to bits to catch up with Mark Henderson and managed to grab a clip of his interpretation of the Eddie Cochran classic ‘Cut Across Shorty’, ably assisted by Chester’s hardest working bassist Thor Brown.
If you want to catch Mark and Thor live, you’re in luck as they are playing at Telford’s Warehouse in Chester this Thursday evening.
I believe they are being joined on stage by another fantastic musician in Ian Ruff.
The event is free entry and support comes from the magnificent Terry Allen.
Terry is a gifted guitarist and vocalist as well as an absolutely stunning man on the inside.
He wears his heart in the right place politically, so expect quality Bob Dylan numbers, as well as other songs of working class struggle and protest.
If you’re unable to make this event, Mark & his friends play at Telford’s on the first Thursday of every month so get yourself down.
You won’t be disappointed.
