We’re going half hour.
We’re going weekly.
Our podcast returns and not a moment too soon with the demise of Flipside, Chester’s local community radio station. Extremely sad news indeed.
Welcome to Schott’s List Selections 23 Podcast.
We have online exclusives from Shem Sharples with the ridiculously good ‘Reaching Out’ off his forthcoming mini album, plus another online first with the Terry Burgin Blues Band and ‘Whisky Got My Woman’, off their latest release.
I’ve included a couple of tracks that have been ear-worming me since my last podcast, as well as some previous sessions done for us from the Flipside archives.
If you want your work to be played and your local to the Chester, UK area-ish then get in touch. It’s not hard to find us on social media.
Keep supporting local music.
Here are the sleevenotes on the podcast:
REACHING OUT BY SHEM SHARPLES:
We’re extremely grateful to Shem for permission to play this as it’s not even released yet, never mind online.
This is the opening track of his new mini-album ‘Swings, Grins & Fairytales’ which will be out shortly. ‘Reaching Out’ is a stunning track and a perfect way to get the new series of podcasts off to a flyer.
LOVIN’ SOUL BY DAVE GREENALD:
This track has been stuck in my head for a year.
Multi-instrumentalist and rock climbing TV Extra Dave brings a bit of gorgeous southern dirt to the proceedings.
RCK PPR BY SPITBUCKET:
Really cool track off the Wrexham hip hop collective’s self titled debut EP ‘Spitbucket’ which is available to download on name your price. Hit the link.
Diverse styles of lyricism from Dave Acton, Double-Barrelled, Lucid and Skinny Bill. Beats by someperson.
WHISKY GOT MY WOMAN BY THE TERRY BURGIN BLUES BAND:
Another track you won’t here anywhere is this Burgin penned gem. Their latest release ‘Live At The Chapel’ is available to buy on CD from the band.
Authentic and accomplished, The TBBB continue to offer spanking original material, as well as thought out reinterpretations of intelligent blues covers you didn’t realise you knew.
SPLASH BY MARK HENDERSON:
This was always getting played on our return podcast. Quality session from the Flipside/Schott’s List archives.
COME AND BREAK MY HEART BY THE THERE OR THEREABOUTS BRIGADE:
Off the sublime debut album ‘The Iconic Cluster’ which is up there for us in one of the best local debuts for a very long time. The album is packed with top tapping goodness. wrapped in healthy wordplay, not unlike a chicken ceaser wrap you might even say. Listen to it’s majesty here.
HELL FREEZES OVER BY MIDNIGHT DAISIES:
Upbeat and classy piece of retribution from the Liverpool skiffle group. This is another classic Flipside session from our FM broadcast weekends back in the day. Long overdue a return to Chester.
CINDERTRACK BY RED ELEKTRA 69:
Classic slab of heavy Space Rock from Vince Cory and the boys.
DO checkout the latest incarnation Sonic Trip Project. They’re really going places.
We’ll be back next week with more quality local.
